We had an informal shoot the day before the wedding, on the castle grounds. Then there was a welcome party which we didn’t photograph, but which gave me the opportunity to get to know many of the partipants and guests. The wedding day itself was uncharacteristically sunny, and not the mid-March rainy and cold Scottish weather we were anticipating. The guests arrived via shuttle, and treked through the woods to the 16th century St. Bride’s Kirk where the ceremony was to take place. A bagpiper serenaded everyone into the ceremony, including the hilarious twist when Jana (a University of Texas graduate) walked down the aisle to a bagpipe version of “The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You”. She looked absolutely beautiful, as her proud father brought her to the altar area. Jana and Alex incorporated many Scottish traditions into the ceremony, including handfasting and the sharing of whisky (Scottish spelling) in a quaich.
After the ceremony, we took some time for photographs, then joined the rest of the guests for a tour of Blair Castle. The Castle staff provided an amazing dinner reception (and yes, I had two helpings of the haggis), and our happy couple exited the Castle to the tune of all their guests clapping coconuts together. Then it was time for drinks at the Atholl Arms Hotel. Thank you so much, Jana and Alex, for an unforgettable wedding experience. I am so honored you chose me to capture your destination wedding in beautiful Scotland, and wish you many years of wedded bliss!
